The Fat-Bottom Revue is coming to Northampton on July 22nd! They're in the middle of an east coast tour, including appearances at the Nolose conference, that endlessly famous and cool venue, the Knitting Factory in NYC, Provincetown and Boston.
They'll be performing with local favorites, the Femmetastic Fatales at the Elevens in Northampton at 10:30 pm. AND! AND! Maximum Beauty, Leonard Nimoy's beautiful photographs of members of the troupe, (I wrote about seeing them in NYC here) will be up in Northampton at the R. Michelson gallery starting July 22. Rumour has it that there will be a reception for the performers at the gallery that day.
Also, I had a great time reading at the packed and very warm cabaret at Food For Thought, which is a new series of politically committed, expansive performances -- the next one is scheduled for August 27. There was music, video, performance poetry, shadow puppet theater and reading, with such a sense of community -- reminded me of the old days when our lesbian writers group regularly filled the room to overflowing at Lunaria bookstore, although this crowd was more diverse. Definitely something to check out, or contact Erika at Food for Thought if you'd be interested in performing (slots of 5-10 minutes or so.)
I'm going swimming in the lake today with my dear old friend Christine and her partner Pat, who are in town on their way to Nolose, and want to wish everyone who is making their way to the conference a lovely time there, full of a reignited -- or new! -- political passion that expands and deepens in all sorts of unexpected ways. Plus, big fun.
