Oh my. I loved them. Kathi Mendonca on drums. Nathan Howdeshell on guitar. Beth Ditto can move, and she made me move. I'm too exhausted and sweaty and happy to try to describe her voice -- big, lots of blues, lots of punk, and that open all the way, watch out, I'm pouring out at you, you better rise to meet this with all you've got to send back, kind of force and presence. Plus, I thought, sweetness. Explicitly fat positive, and she really does, she's got the moves to prove it.

I stood behind her in line for the bathroom before they went on, but I was too shy to really talk, even though she said, "This line is so quiet, it's ridiculous." Still I walked past her out front when I left, and she waved and said, "Good night." Very sweet.

Beth recommended that fat women and those who love us show up at the April 7 release of Mo'Nique's new movie Phat Girlz dressed in our finest -- and carrying cupcakes, which I feel is optional -- and as of now, she's someone I'm listening to, so I'm passing the word along.
