Break

Back to New York tomorrow, for the last time in a while, I think. I'll be reading at Time -- what will that be like? -- seeing the Maximum Beauty photography show, hanging out with my friend Sarah, and staying with Alison, who is doing the same reading, too.

I hear the heat is supposed to break. Hope so. My refrigerator is making its last gasp, and I think the heat makes it harder for the motor to hang on. There's not much in it, but I don't want even that little to rot while I'm gone.

OOooo, I'd love that, too, but my schedule is so tight and also kind of unpredictable this trip that I'm afraid it wouldn't work. I'm trying to wedge it in between getting off the train and meeting another friend, so it's going to be a really brief stop, with no time to visit, and may have to get cut if there's any problem with the train and such. Too bad, because it'd be great to go to it with you.

It was the photos we've seen online, but great to see them in their space, and be surrounded by them in a tiny room, to get the details and the spirit of them. There was quite a calm and respectful artist's statement about how he wanted these photographs to be more about the models themselves, who they are as individuals, than to represent other things, which evidently was the roles that previous models had played for him.
