Yesterday's breakfast was crookneck squash, red onion, and basil made into a kind of fritatta with eggs from my love's chickens (the squash and basil was from her garden, too), a little milk and swiss cheese. Tall glass of Lady Grey ice tea.

I wanted to write it down to taste it twice.

Off and on for more than twenty years, I've worked a little bit on a poem on August 6, which is the anniversary of the day the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. I first posted saying that I hadn't written anything on it today, or worked on the poem for three years, but found a version with an entry from August 2005 (which I'm now editing in public), and decided that the crookneck post I put up earlier today could hold the place this year. Here's a link to a 90 second video from True Majority about the current size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

And here's the poem )
