shryve just let me know about the
Fat Female Film Festival, which is currently taking submissions (until mid-March) for a festival in Tampa, Florida. This is new to me, but the purpose is to support fat-positive filmmakers, and, in the films section, they mention that Julie Wyman is coming and showing her film,
Buoyant, which features the Padded Lilies fat synchronized swim troupe, along with Archimedes' study of floating bodies and the dry stroke simulator, for swimming out of water.
I met Julie when she was a student at Amherst College, and I'd bet that she's doing smart, interesting work.

To this end, I hope that everyone donates at least one tenth the amount of time to this project that they have spent on stair machines that raise them nowhere, time that they have spent hating themselves and their bodies, and time that they have spent apologizing for who they are. I know it is time that we start investing in and celebrating who we are right now."
How far is Tampa from West Palm Beach? My parents have a house there. Road trip?
