Hi. Nice to meet you, and I'm really glad that you're coming to a reading. Don't worry too much about protocol -- it probably one of the simplest situations that there is in terms of social demands. Just show up, have a seat or browse books if you feel like it, listen, ask questions if you feel like it (or there may not be a time for questions) -- that's pretty much it. Say hi to me or other people if the mood strikes you, but there's no pressure at all to do that if you don't want to. And yes, love that question, there will definitely be books for sale at the bookstore readings.

Doesn't sound as if you're thinking about Saturday night, which would be slightly different -- $3-$5 cover charge to benefit the wonderful other magazine, it's at a bar rather than a bookstore, and there will be other readers.

I remember the first reading I ever went to -- oh it was the second, but the first by myself -- I was in college and wanted desperately to be a writer and was totally nervous about the whole thing -- could barely get myself in the door. Was glad I did though -- it's the writing itself that's the thing.
