Via [livejournal.com profile] slit:

Why not post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me? It can be anything you want – good or bad – BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

Anything graceful and unlikely especially appreciated. Gripping is good, too.

i still love to think about how on our cross country trip in a big old volvo we stopped in every state in the continental US (yes, i know you wanted to go to alaska, but it was january and too cold!) and we each took a photograph in front of a major monument of "male achievment" in the nude. and then we exhibited the photos in a small art gallery in portland, or and northhampton and sold each and every one (because we weren't charging an arm and a leg for them) and then, so we would always remember, i made each of us a photo album of the images. thats what i look at when i think i cant get through another semester of teaching, its my motivation.

I was leafing through that album just yesterday, marvelling at how short my hair used to be and how you always found the warmest spot in the sun at every monument. And at what a thing of beauty you are. A cross country trip sounds awfully good about now, but I'm glad you're drawing on the art we made to do the next complicated and/or inspired thing you need to do.
