It's here, it's here, the book's here!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it is JUST SO BEAUTIFUL.

Small, sweet, fits in my hand. Oh. It's here! I just read the acknowledgements to my mother, and made her cry so much she couldn't talk, my dad had to take over the talking. Got to tell my big brother, who was so great during the writing of the book -- drove me around the country so I could take pictures out the window! He's an artist, was getting ready to give talk with a slide show at his gallery tonight. And I called my dear, dear friend, Sally Bellerose, who wrote a drop-dead terrific novel called The Girls' Club which hasn't been published yet, and who has been meeting with me every week for YEARS, read the manuscript more times than I can count ---- OOOOhhhh! I was on my way outside to do some writing -- better go -- BUT IT's HERE!!!!! AND IT's SO EXCITING.

Karen from Firebrand was very sweet and sent it to me early, so I got it right when I started to get the most edgy about wanting to see it! Left a message for her. WHOO!

And if you're someone I love, and I haven't called you yet -- don't worry, I will! (mm, unless I'm trying to surprise you by putting it in your hand and betting that you're not reading this.) I'm just beside myself!!!!

You did sound English -- always a thrill for born Texan such as myself. (I was trying to say "Lent" the other day, and everybody thought I meant "lint." Confusion ensued.)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! can't ever have too many of those !!!!!!!!! I'm sort of into the big tease part, that you'll have it soon, but not quite yet... oh, but the true fact is that I'm into everything about it, and if everybody can read English had already ready, mmm, that would make me happy, too.

Congratulations!!! OHmigosh, it must be so exciting to get a book published - I can't even imagine how incredible that would feel (and you, of course, have felt it several times already!). I hope I get to know firsthand someday! Yayyyyyy Susan! :-)

Thanks, puff. You'll like the feeling a lot when it happens. And, hey, do you know Minna? I sometimes think that I met you once at a conference in Seattle, but I'm not quite sure if that's true...

It's quite possible that I'm babbling mindlessly. don't mind me.

Um, yes, yes, and yes. :-) Do you remember, when I first added you to my friends list, me trying to tell you that I had met you at a size acceptance conference in Seattle? That I've remembered you all this time, that we had wonderful conversations, that we both knew/know Minna and Marilyn and Sondra, etc etc? Cathi Rodgveller, Lynn, Mary, all those SeaFattle folk? Yeah. That would be me. You are not babbling or hallucinating. :-)

Many thanks.

Oh, I hope it shows up in bookstores in the UK in May like it will here. I've asked Karen at Firebrand about how folks there can get it, and she says, "They can order it from us." But, surely, later on there will be more to it than that...

What about Silver Moon which now has a section at Foyles, on Charing Cross Rd?

I read there a couple of years ago when Groundswell, the second lesbian short story anthology from Diva came out. That was *such* a great night, and Ali Smith was reading too -- I was new to her work, and thought it was unbelievably good. Hotel World was amazing.

It's just that I don't know what distribution system Firebrand uses to get books to the UK -- I'm sure there's something, though. And it absolutely should be in Silver Moon.

Just wait!

Hey, you're going to the BEA, right? With varied, much appreciated help, I figured out a way to get there. So maybe I'll run into you wandering past the Soft Skull booth, or something...

Nah, I am not one of the ones who's going. I would love to go, but the Soft Skull crew will be there making sure my galleys make the rounds, and I am saving up to do a bit more on my own this summer and fall. It should be a hoot.

It's terrific how people helped you get to go!

Thanks!! And ooooo, a swim?!?!?! When? I'm car-less, and a friend's birthday dinner is tomorrow night (no time yet), but I'd seriously love to swim on a regular basis!! Is anybody going from Northampton? Thanks for letting me know ... I probably won't be back online until tomorrow. What a day, what a day.

The swim is at 6PM and I would be happy to pick you up (I know so far that I'm going, and maybe my friend J is going). I'll email you my cell #. The swim is going to happen regularly, to my understanding. xo
